📐 How the Index Works
The BrickCheck™ MMi 300 uses a fixed-basket Laspeyres price index — the same methodology as the national Consumer Price Index (CPI). 300 gate-qualified minifigures, weighted by March 2026 transaction volume. Updated every month.

🛒 The Weighted Basket — What $3.27M Really Means
The basket value is one of the most important concepts behind the BrickCheck™ MMi index — and it's not what you might expect.
The MMi 300 is not simply priced as "1 of each of the 300 figs." Instead, each fig
gets a weight based on how many lots of it were actually traded on BrickLink historically. This is called
a fixed-weight Laspeyres price index — the same methodology used for the national
Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The shopping cart analogy:
Imagine in March 2026 you filled a cart with 300 specific minifigures — but not 1 of each.
You filled it in proportion to how the real market trades them:
🔴 Battle Droid (army builder, massive volume) → weighted at ~800 units
⭐ Boba Fett (Cloud City) (rare, low volume) → weighted at ~12 units
That cart cost $2,018,244 at March 2026 prices.
Now take that exact same cart — same figs, same quantities — and price it today.
That cart now costs $3,267,062.
The index is just: $3,267,062 ÷ $2,018,244 × 100 = 161.87 — the MMi reading.
The $3.27M is not "what all minifigs combined are worth" — it's the current cost of
the specific, liquidity-weighted market basket. This makes the index economically defensible:
it reflects how the real market weights figures, not an arbitrary equal-weight assumption.
The CPI works the same way — milk is weighted more than caviar because more people buy milk.
